Florence coach permits cover more than the historic centre

Florence’s ZTL Bus extends across the city’s built-up area and operates around the clock, according to Servizi alla Strada’s coach guidance. It is distinct from the historic-centre ZTL. Tourist coaches generally need the appropriate permit unless an exemption applies, and permits are issued online.

Give the operator the full hotel and attraction addresses before the route is priced. Ask which permit category, boarding point and separate waiting location apply to the actual vehicle and itinerary, and whether those costs appear in the quotation. A hotel reservation or a stop outside the old-town streets does not by itself resolve the coach-access requirement.

Fit museum groups and walking stages into the transport schedule

The Uffizi Galleries group rules cap ordinary groups at 16 people including guides and accompanying adults; Boboli Gardens has a different limit. A full coach party may therefore need separate museum groups and admission arrangements. Confirm those bookings before promising that everyone will enter or finish at the same time.

For Florence group touring, record the permitted passenger stop, walk to the booked entrance and gathering point after each visit. If some guests visit the Uffizi while others choose Pitti Palace or Boboli, state the separate finishing times and whether everyone reunites before the coach returns. Include any onward hotel in Tuscany and luggage that remains with the group.

PSA

Pisa International Airport

Approx. 69 km straight-line

FRL

Forlì-Luigi Ridolfi International Airport

Approx. 80 km straight-line

Prepare your Florence journey brief

  1. Arrival: If your flight uses Florence Airport, Peretola (FLR) or Pisa International Airport (PSA), give the airport on your ticket, flight number and arrival date. Add the full Florence hotel or venue address; these airport references do not establish a road route or a collection point.
  2. An airport arrival with several stops: If your flight is booked at Florence Airport, Peretola (FLR), use Siena arrival planning and Lucca arrival planning for the separate hotel or venue addresses. Say whether the enquiry covers one continuous itinerary or individual local transfers, with passengers and bags for each leg.
  3. Group and return: Include passengers, luggage and mobility needs. Put any return date, pickup time and departure flight or train in the message field.

Planning your Florence journey

How do FLR and PSA compare for a Florence transfer?

Florence Airport, Peretola (FLR) is about 5 km from the Florence map reference in a straight line; Pisa International Airport (PSA) is about 69 km. These figures are not road distances. Base the enquiry on the booked flight and actual destination address; road access and collection arrangements are checked separately.

Can one enquiry cover groups landing at different airports near Florence?

List each airport, flight number, arrival time and passenger count separately. If one group lands at FLR and another at PSA, say whether they need separate vehicles or whether you want a combined itinerary assessed. Do not assume a single vehicle can meet both schedules.

What happens if the destination after landing is Siena?

Use Siena as the actual destination rather than entering only Florence as the wider area. Add the hotel or venue address and luggage count so the quote covers the requested end point.

How do the Siena and Lucca stops compare from Florence?

From the Florence geographic reference, Siena is approximately 51.7 km away in a straight line and Lucca is 60.0 km away. A further destination reference is Arezzo, approximately 62.0 km from Florence. Compare the time needed at each visit before choosing the pickup order. These are map measurements, not driving distances; a feasible route and vehicle allocation must be assessed in the quotation.

Does staying outside Florence’s historic-centre ZTL remove the coach permit requirement?

Not necessarily. Florence’s ZTL Bus covers the built-up city area and is separate from the historic-centre ZTL. The operator must check the applicable permit or exemption for the exact route and vehicle.
