Prepare your Ürümqi journey brief
- Arrival: If your flight uses Ürümqi Tianshan International Airport (URC) or Turpan Jiaohe Airport (TLQ), give the airport on your ticket, flight number and arrival date. Add the full Ürümqi hotel or venue address; these airport references do not establish a road route or a collection point.
- Separate the longer travel stages: The geographic references put Lanzhou (about 1626 km) and Wuzhong (about 1687 km) from Ürümqi in a straight line. Choose how the group travels between those cities before requesting each local pickup; a flight or rail stage and a full road itinerary need different transport briefs.
- Group and return: Include passengers, luggage and mobility needs. Put any return date, pickup time and departure flight or train in the message field.
Tianshan Airport and the north terminal replace old pickup assumptions
Ürümqi Diwopu Airport was renamed Ürümqi Tianshan International Airport in 2025, retaining the code URC. The municipal government subsequently confirmed the north-terminal relocation in April 2025. An older Diwopu meeting instruction may therefore describe a former terminal arrangement. Use the airport code, current flight and current terminal instructions together; ask the operator to confirm the passenger meeting point and vehicle boarding area before travel. Keep any wider regional itinerary subject to the travel-advice and route checks already described on this page.
Use the China transport guide for a wider itinerary, or include your flight and final address in an airport group-transfer enquiry.

Your Ürümqi transport questions
Is Diwopu a different airport from Tianshan?
The airport was renamed Tianshan while retaining URC. The north-terminal move also changed the pickup context, so recheck old meeting instructions against the current flight and terminal.
What is the distance between URC and Ürümqi?
The airport and destination map references are approximately 16 km apart in a straight line. A road journey can differ substantially. Provide the actual address in Ürümqi; the map distance is not a promise of transfer time or fare.
Where will our group meet the vehicle at URC?
The meeting arrangement for Ürümqi Tianshan International Airport (URC) must be confirmed with the booking. Do not assume a coach can collect at any terminal door. Give the flight and terminal details, and keep the lead passenger contact available for the agreed collection instructions.
Can we continue from Ürümqi to Lanzhou?
Include the next stop in Lanzhou and its address in the initial brief. State whether it is a short visit, an overnight stay or the final destination; those are different vehicle and driver requirements.
What luggage information is needed for a Ürümqi arrival?
Give the total suitcases as well as passengers, plus any oversized cases, sports equipment, pushchairs or mobility aids. A group arriving at URC needs enough luggage capacity for the whole journey; seat count alone does not confirm that capacity.
